Dr. Cesar Ocampo in our School

Cesar Ocampo was born in Armenia in 1968, when he was two years old, he and his family moved to U.S.A. He says that he knew what he wanted to do since he was four years old when he watched Apollo XVII mission, he realized that he wanted to become a space engineer. Nowadays, he is an aerospace engineer from Kansas University, he also gut his master’s degree and PhD in Astrodynamic from Colorado University. And he worked as an associate professor for Texas University. Dr Ocampo has worked as a researcher at different centers such as, Jet propulsion laboratory, Goddard and Jhonson.

Besides, he was a scientific director of the first Colombian satellite which was developed by U. Sergio Arboleda.

During six years, Dr Ocampo worked at huges Space Company and Communication Company, he designed orbit for commercial satellites.

In 1998 occurred a recovery of ASIASAT, a geostationary satellite which could not fix properly on orbit due to some rocket failures; then,

Dr Ocampo decided to send to the moon a free return trajectory which helped to satellite be on the right orbit around the earth. This was the first time that this method was used to place a commercial satellite in orbit.

Actually, Dr. Ocampo carries out different NASA’S projects, he tries to improve LCROSS mission’s trajectories which struck the crater Cabeus near the south pole of the moon on October 9th.

Cesar Ocampo is the author and director of Copernicus programme which consists in a software that designes paths for new Orion spacecraft. NASA uses this programme to arrange new mission in the solar system.

On October 3rd to 11th was held the world congress of astronomy of the American Astronomical society in Puerto Rico On that date, there was a special session related to the LCROSS mission which main objective was to explore the presence of water in a crater near a lunar polar region.

The orbit of this mission was developed by Cesar Ocampo.

The next 18th April we will have as a special guest Dr. Cesar Ocampo who will place the inaugural conference of the anniversary of the GNV

(39 years) will share their experiences with the children and young people of our institution.

We are very proud of having their valuable presence, will be very enriching for the whole community.

Welcome Dr. Cesar Ocampo
